Weather Report
Weather is a tricky issue. Postponing an event involves calling off volunteers, possibly cancelling a generator rental and transportation, concession stand food purchases/storage etc. Sometimes we make the call the day before based on the forecast and sometimes we may have weather in mid event to deal with.
We have a 32 foot wide by 24 foot high by 10 feet deep inflatable screen that gets lashed down with 12 ropes. It’s rated to 25 mph winds so if the forecast if for winds at or above that level the day before, we will postpone the event. Rain is not so much an issue for the screen as long as we inflate the screen the next day to let it dry so no mold starts to grow.
Rain is an issue however for the speakers, projector and other electronics. A passing shower can be dealt with by stopping a show, covering the rack/projector and other equipment with a tarp and covering the speakers with large garbage bags until it passes.
Safety is also an issue with the electrical connections for the audience. Trust me, electricity and water do not mix!
We will make every effort to get a notice in the paper if we cancel the day before. We are also getting a banner to hang at the location notifying residents that we are postponed for a week in case we didn’t get it in the paper or people can’t access this website. We are just getting started with this project so bear with us as we work out the kinks in the program.
